thanksgiving leftovers

my fridge is stuffed full of leftovers right now.  outside of eating the seemingly neverending amount of turkey, cranberry and brie sandwiches i am just about out of ideas.  last night however i did get a great idea: croquettes.  yeah seriously.  i took some leftover mashed potatoes (they were okay but not great), shredded some leftover turkey, added an egg and some breadcrumbs and then breaded and baked the suckers.  turned out it was a pretty nice little meal for us.  nothing big, just thinking outside the box a little.  i served with some heated gravy and that was that.

happy leopard day everyone!!

that’s right kids, it’s here. apple release os x leopard today and i’m installing it on my imac right now. having some issues with installing/erasing my hard drive. will let you know once it finishes. ooooo i’m excited.

update: installed but not a clean install, just an upgrade (argh!!)

update: now a clean install and erase was done.  absolutely amazing.  time machine is already backing up.

lemonade diet day 1

i’m insane. that’s what they say about me. that and i’ll crack by 6:15 tonight and have to eat solid food. well today is the first day that i (along with the woman) embark on a minimum 7 day adventure into the weird world of the master cleanse. for those unaware its where you don’t eat (yes, no eating allowed) and you drink a mixture of fresh lemon juice, organic grade b maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. you end up drinking about a gallon of the stuff a day. i know it sounds weird but it works, i guess.

they say you feel better, purge toxins, lose weight (though i really can’t and don’t want to lose any) and cleanse yourself .

what your day looks like:

  • 16-32oz of lukewarm water mixed with a teaspoon of sea salt
  • 64-128oz of the lemonade solution
  • 1 coffee cup of tea at night before you go to bed

02:32pm cst - to say i feel aweful is an understatement. i have been in the bathroom 5 times already today. the lemonade burns real bad and doesn’t taste that good. i am trying to keep an open mind but it’s not working real well. i feel terrible, that’s more appropriate.

06:16pm cst - i’m done.  i’ve been to the bathroom 11 times already and my hands are cold and clammy.  i’m throwing it in.  i haven’t felt this bad since the dreaded “french dip” food poisoning of ‘06.  i have however made it past the 6:15 deadline imposed by mr. ree.  so i ate some veggie broth with noodles and called it a night.  that’s it.  the woman on the other hand is going strong.  i will be supporting her by never eating at home so the smell doesn’t linger and never eating in front of her.  (my god it sounds like i’ve developed an eating disorder)

obessions: my latest is the wii

nintendo released the famed wii console back in november of 2006 to what seemed like little fan fare. they were up against heavy hitters like sony’s ps3 and microsoft’s xbox 360 and everyone thought they would fail. well here it is almost a year later and you can’t find them anywhere and i mean anywhere because they are so freaking popular that nintendo can’t make them fast enough. this has turned into an obsession for me.

now i know what you are saying: obsessions are not healthy. no my dear they are not. they are not healthy when you have a wii locater website sending you constant updates as to which online stores have it available. they are not healthy when you are prepared to borrow a coworker’s car to speed to the nearest store to try and buy one. they most certainly are not healthy when you are calling your girlfriend in another time zone and asking her to hit the closest best buy because you have been scanning their weekly ad online and know that since she is 1 hour behind you that she can get the jump on the store before it opens. this is not healthy.

but in my defense she wanted me to wait until christmas to ask for it as a gift from one of our families. my response was: do you want 3 more months of this? she smiled and just said i love you. made me weepy, made me want a wii. to all those i’ve hurt i’m sorry. wait, no i’m not.

 update: she got it.  love that girl.

on eating right and portion size

my better half is on a mission. she’s attempting to overhaul her eating habits and in turn has taken to copies of self magazine and online journals as help. now please, i don’t mean this as a slight, not at all, what it is meant to be is a guide as to what to expect.

first things first, the overhaul of the cabinets. the mission: get rid of anything remotely bad for you with the exception of the dried fruit and nut category.

here’s what it comes down to: start going through everything that has food related items contained in it and anything that has the following 5 ingredients in the list of the first 3 on the package need to go in the bin.  the ingredients are flour, saturated fats, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and hyrdrogenated oils. yeah that pretty much accounts for all the items i found.  this should be interesting.
