iphone/microsoft sync commercial boggles the mind

i just saw it.  it’s a commercial offering a free* iphone when you buy a ford focus and you even get a free setup of microsoft sync.  for those of you uninitiated the iphone is….. okay for real if you don’t know what this is you need to sleep less than 20 hours per day.  microsoft sync is microsoft’s new way of trying to get you to buy their crap, in other words it’s a product that is released to great fanfare, then lamented by everyone.  here’s the kicker you get a free iphone (a product which is not supported by sync) to go with your shit car.  okay, okay, let’s think about this.  the commercial for sync shows a zune (an inferior microsoft ipod knockoff) incorporated into the system.  should this be a sign, yes.  will people pay attention to it, hopefully.

in summation here’s what you get:

  • a free iphone: without service, minutes, or any way to use it even as an ipod other than paying at&t (ooooooo a free* 12 month contract at$59.99 per month.  thanks ford for the -$719.88 per year)
  • free microsoft sync: an bullshit system that is buggy with no way compatible with my free* gift
  • a ford focus: i don’t even need to explain this one.

okay.  that’s it.  don’t buy one.  buy the iphone if you want one, but don’t think for a second that anything is free.  don’t think that two competing technologies will ‘play nice’ just because some regional auto manufacturer wants you to believe they will.

    @ mike,

thank you for your comments. amazingly constructive of you to use such adult words as jerkoff and idiot. in fact i do drive a fuel-efficient vehicle: a lexus rx400h. i love it. see, here’s the problem, you seem as though you have a hard time forming a sentence. the post was in regards to the sales program and its tactics. in any case, thanks for stopping by. love the picture on your account, it reinforces my earlier statements. and if you have something constructive to say, come back.

i agree with you trix, I too saw the advertisement and thought to myself, wow there are probably thousands of people that will see this commercial and think that that it would be amazing to control an iphone with your voice. But alas I see compatibility on the horizon, if not by microsoft itself, but by third party programmers that will find a solution

you guys are brilliant, the promo ended in february. blah, blah, blah … burp.

the rabbit’s edit – mike’s a little bitter because his company produced the commercial. sorry mike, can’t take criticism?

Another scam! promos are really catchy, but if you think about it, they are giving you just an iphone, which is nothing compared to the price of the car.-

I have a fusion with sync, and my iphone works just fine with with the sync system. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

I have a ford edge with sync, and it’s almost like it was made for my iPhone. It’s surprised me how easy it was to get started. Sorry you didn’t like the promo, but it really does work!

I have Microsoft sync in my Focus, just picked up a IPhone this month and they work great together. I can use voice commmands to choose which music I want to hear without any problems. The only issue is on apples side. They crippled the bluetooth so you can not stream audio. Hopefully Apple changes that in in the near future, so for now I’ll have to plug it in to the Sync’s usb port.

So, Microsoft sync is not buggy -mine has been working perfectly for 5 months now
Iphones do connect easily to Microsoft sync
Ford Focus is really Nice car to own. I have 2- 2006 zx5 and I just purchased a second 2009 SEL

The only thing I agree with in your post is the fact that there really is no such thing as a free gift.
